Mojacar a gem on the Mediterranean
Mojácar combines culture, sport, and heritage in a varied program to end the year
Mojácar is synonymous with many things, including leisure and culture. So much so that until the year's end, the town will host a myriad of events that are sure to satisfy residents and visitors alike. From hiking trails to exhibitions and theatrical performances, a variety of activities will take place in Mojácar during these final days of 2025, a year that has marked a significant leap forward for the town.
As Christmas is one of the most anticipated times of the year, on November 29th the town will welcome the holiday season with its traditional Christmas lights switch-on. The Plaza Nueva will be the epicenter of an event that will fill the streets with magic, light, and music, marking the beginning of a festive period that, as is customary, is celebrated with particular enthusiasm in this town on the Almería coast. Also taking place that same evening will be the established and well-known 'Disney Day,' where children and their families can enjoy workshops, bouncy castles, and a multitude of surprises, in an event where the Disney spirit will permeate everything.
Mojácar's end-of-year offerings are not limited to Christmas festivities, as they will combine culture, sports, and leisure. On Friday, November 21, the Multi-Purpose Center will host a performance of the play 'En Encrucijada' (At the Crossroads), written by Jesús Robles and directed by María Núñez, a tribute to the world of comedy and traditional Spanish song. On November 23, students from the Mojácar School of Music will offer a piano concert in Plaza Arbollón, starting at 12:00 noon.
Seven days later, on November 28, the same venue will host the play 'Dos gardenias' (Two Gardenias), with text by Marcela Marcolini and directed by Pablo Razuk. The cultural offerings will culminate on December 8 with 'Debéisme cuanto he escrito' (You Owe Me Everything I Have Written), a rhapsody and musical piece by Julio Béjar and Fran Elara commemorating the 150th anniversary of the birth of Antonio Machado, one of the most important Spanish poets of the 20th century. The performance will present the texts recited alongside live music.
The 'Vera International Photo Club' photography exhibition will also be on display at the Fuente de Mojácar Art Center until December 15. The exhibition can be visited Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and on Saturdays, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Meanwhile, the iconic flamenco venue El Pimiento, located in the heart of Mojácar Pueblo, continues to resonate with the rhythm of flamenco throughout November with a program brimming with talent. Every Friday and Saturday, at 6:00 PM and 7:30 PM, audiences can enjoy a unique show of dance, song, and guitar for just €25, including a drink. On November 22nd, Tania Santiago, Alberto Funes, and Juan David Lázaro will take the stage, followed a week later by Beatriz Higueras, Rocío Zamora, and Gabriel Pérez.
Sports and Leisure in WinterRegarding leisure and sports, the program 'Your Best Time is Living It in Winter,' which aims to solidify Mojácar as an ideal destination beyond the summer season, taking advantage of its mild year-round climate, will continue offering installments of its various hiking routes, yoga by the sea, and skating activities for children. This Saturday, November 22nd, the hiking route 'From Past to Present' is scheduled, which will explore the main heritage and historical sites of the municipality. On the 29th, the Marina de la Torre route will take place.
In addition to these suggestions, the municipality of Mojácar offers many attractions. Strolling through its narrow, whitewashed streets, savoring its rich cuisine, or staying overnight in one of its many accommodations are all excellent options for visitors to discover this corner of the Almería coast. The town also boasts 17 kilometers of coastline, expanding the possibilities for enjoyment throughout the year.
Also worth a visit is the La Canana House Museum, named after one of its former residents, a woman well-known in the town for selling tobacco and other essential goods. Built during the first half of the 20th century, it occupies over 200 square meters and houses authentic period artifacts, offering a glimpse into local history and culture.
These are the 7 most beautiful and magical villages in Almería with official recognition
The province of Almería is full of charming villages and places. From the best known, such as the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park or the Vélez-Blanco Castle, to more hidden gems like Bayárcal or Sopalmo.
But there are 7 villages in Almería that have a special designation, either as one of the Most Beautiful Villages in Spain or as one of the Magical Villages of Spain. These are two associations that seek to give a voice to Spanish villages that stand out for their beauty, history, and culture.
The Most Beautiful Villages in Spain- Mojácar. Not the coastal Mojácar, but the old town nestled in the mountains, where highlights include its church, the Parterre Square, and the City Gate. A visit to the Plaza Nueva viewpoint is a must, offering breathtaking views of the Valley of the Pyramids and Mojácar la Vieja.
- Lucainena de las Torres. This village is known for its whitewashed houses and the vibrant flowers that adorn every corner. Of course, its architectural beauty is equally impressive, and a visit to its 18th-century church is essential. The best way to enjoy the surrounding natural landscape is along the Vía Verde (Greenway), a tranquil path.
- Níjar. The town of Níjar is particularly noteworthy for its history, narrow streets, and whitewashed houses. While its church is once again a highlight, the pottery and traditional rugs known as Jarapas are the most prominent features. The association promotes this tradition, which is as important as the other elements that make Níjar so special.
Magical Towns of Spain- Vícar. Before it was a town, it was a village. And in Villa de Gádor, the town's urban corners, brimming with art, are particularly noteworthy. It's a village renowned for its many photo opportunities. A visit to its fortified church and viewpoint is also a must.
- Enix. Its location highlights the beauty of the Sierra de Gádor mountains, and it also boasts remnants of a long history, such as the 16th-century Church of Our Lady of the Rosary, and the birthplace of the writer Agustín Gómez Arcos.
- Laujar de Andarax. It stands out for its Alpujarra Almeriense landscape and its Moorish history. Each of its buildings exudes history, from its 18th-century town hall to its emblematic fountains.
- Abrucena. The town's most striking feature is undoubtedly El Castillejo, though the Hermitage of the Souls is also worth a visit. Savoring its cuisine is also essential.
